# What it remembers

> What the agent remembers within a thread, across a group's threads, and across groups: the group archive, group memory, and an agent's shared notes, and how to view or correct them.

Memory belongs to the group, not to you. Everyone in a group shares what the agent remembers there, and nothing it learns in one group reaches another unless that group's admins allow it.

## The thread

Inside a thread, the agent remembers the whole conversation: every message in the thread is part of its session. If the session is replaced, after a settings change or `!restart`, the new one reads the thread again from the archive. For a very long thread it starts from the most recent part and can open the rest.

## Group history and files

The agent can search every message the group has received since it joined, and open every group file, from any thread. That isn't memory it has to keep: it's the archive, and it looks things up when it needs them.

## Group memory

Each group has its own memory: notes the agent keeps across all of the group's conversations. It reads them when a session starts and saves durable facts there, such as preferences, decisions, and who owns what. It's told never to store secrets in them.

To make it remember something, say so:

```text
@cloud remember that the release train leaves on Thursdays, and Priya signs off on it.
```

To see or correct its notes, open the group's **Memory** page. Every note is listed with its size and when it last changed. Anyone with access to the group's settings can read them; admins can edit or delete a note.

If a save or deletion fails, the page shows an error so you can try again. A deletion is confirmed only once the note has been removed or is already absent. The same applies to shared notes.

## Shared notes

Each agent also keeps **shared notes**, which it reads in every group it's in. They work like Claude Tag's workspace memory.

- The agent reads its shared notes in every group.
- It saves to them only from groups whose admins turned on **Let Cloud save to the notes it shares across all its groups from here** on the Overview page (the agent's name in place of Cloud). It's off by default. Leave it off for a private group, so nothing from that group reaches others.
- The organization's Owners and Admins can read, edit and delete shared notes on the organization page, under the agent's **shared notes**.

## Check what it remembers

Ask in the group:

```text
@cloud what do you have in memory for this group?
```

Or open the group's **Memory** page.

## Direct messages

[Direct messages](/docs/users/direct-messages) keep private notes per person and agent, across that person's email threads. DMs never read or write group memory or the agent's shared notes.
